These days it’s hard to go anywhere without hearing someone talking about cloud hosting. Indeed, cloud hosting services have a lot to offer and there are plenty of them springing up all over the Web. You can find anything from simple storage services to virtual servers and data centers. It begs the question, if cloud hosting services are so powerful and have so much to offer, will traditional hosting go away?

It may be difficult to believe, but I think it might happen. Not any time soon, but maybe 20 years hence.

Cloud hosting has so much more to offer. You can host your website on one server, have an apps library on another server, host all your images somewhere else, and have another library full of special files. Then you run access to all of these libraries through a tunnel. Why would you need traditional hosting?

Of course, it could be that traditional hosting will simply change its name and that will be that.

At any rate, I think it’s safe to say that at some point in the future, Web hosting will look a lot different than it does today. You will go to a specialty hosting company for each of your needs and your IT director will have to figure out a way to connect them all. What do you think?
